Directory Lister is a free windows software tool which helps you to make a comprehensive list of links from a selected user-defined area, like a CD-ROM, CD, DVD, or USB drive. Although it comes with many user-friendly parameters, it only sports a very simple and clean design which gives quick access only to a few select functions. The main reason why I am not giving this product five stars is because of its restrictive capacity to add and remove subdirectories. Even though it does have the ability to do both, it restricts the usage in doing so by requiring you to either delete all the files you want to keep or move them into a specific folder. I suppose it's only because I am a free software enthusiast and always look out for free software solution which provide me the ability to use software applications while being cost-effective.
I am however, a big fan of any windows software application and I would recommend DLL Killer to anyone who wants to organize their hard drive in a better way. What makes this program different from other application like Windows Explorer or My Computer is that, it allows you to search for files and even specify the types of folders they are in. You can also specify the output file name for all files, this feature is again used to help you find files quickly. One thing I found annoying about the application is that it requires you to configure your windows settings prior to use which can be rather cumbersome. On the plus side, if you are using a free version, you can use the trial version and check if the features work well before upgrading to the full version which costs around forty bucks.
The main problem I had with the application is that sometimes it generates invalid context menu. When this happens I had to open the Task Manager and manually correct the problem which takes quite some time. The good news is that this application is a freeware and it has a risk free trial available. Moreover, the application allows you to export and import as many DLLs as you want. In my opinion, this application is best used with context menu automation feature of windows explorer, otherwise you will not need it much.
